Bonny Method Level II
About Level II Training

This workshop is designed for music therapists and other mental health professionals. This training is endorsed by the Association for Music and Imagery and may be applied toward requirements for becoming a Fellow of the Association for Music and Imagery.
INTRO
The intermediate training in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music begins with a 7-day, 50-hour intensive. Through didactic instruction and supervised practice in the Bonny Method, the Level II training seminar prepares the experienced therapist for beginning practice in the Bonny Method. Prerequisites include:
• completion of an AMI-endorsed Level I GIM training
• recommendation by the Level I trainer
• minimum four personal sessions since Level I training
• completion of any additional requirements stipulated by the Level I trainer
• and application for admission (see below) to the Level II.
Through lectures, demonstrations, and supervised experiences as guide and traveler, this intermediate level training will prepare participants to:
• Assess client needs (CBMT Domains IB, Task 2; 2B-2 & 2B-3, Tasks 11, 12, 13)
- Develop and individualize inductions (CBMT Domains 2C-3, Task 21; 2D-2, Tasks 28 & 30)
- Differentiate guiding interventions for types of imagery (CBMT Domains 3A-7, 3A-11, Tasks 33 & 39)
- Use verbal and nonverbal skills to process session material (CBMT Domain 2B-4)
Participants also will demonstrate knowledge of:
- GIM as a depth process (CBMT Domain 3A-6, 3A-7, Tasks 37 & 38;)
- Utilizing beginning music programs for GIM (CBMT Domain 3A-10 & 3A-11, Tasks 38 & 39)
- The process for a series of sessions (CBMT Domain 3A-1, Task 31)
- Clinical applications and contraindications (CBMT Domain 2B. Tasks 13 & 14; Domain 4A-5)
Topics include intermediate-level specialized facilitation and guiding techniques, analysis of several GIM music programs, music-centered processes for new client assessment and screening, and discussion and application of relevant theories from transpersonal, humanistic, and psychodynamic psychology (etc.) to provide trainees with adequate preparation to facilitate limited GIM sessions following the seminar. The seminar includes personal experiences with music and imagery; since self-experience and personal work are essential to effective and sensitive practice as a GIM therapist. Level II training requires completion of follow-up assignments that address both professional development and personal growth. The assignments include guiding 10 or more single Bonny Method sessions with healthy adults, completing assigned readings and music projects, and personal GIM sessions. This training may be used toward completion of requirements for becoming a Fellow of the Association for Music and Imagery.
